A Personal Appeal
From MDRC's Executive Director:
For the past 20 years, our focus at the Michigan Disability Rights Coalition has been to provide support for the disability community. We specialize in community building, policy impact, and technology support. Recently, we experienced the loss of two major grants. This caused some painful cutbacks. If we don't find new funding sources, current trends will lead to even more losses next year. At the same time, the state is cutting funds to local areas, eliminating the possibility of traditional strategies. This means that the need for information, training, and skill building at the grassroots level is greater than ever.
Despite this crisis -- because of it -- our team is determined to continue working until all people with disabilities can live fully integrated lives within their chosen communities with hopes and dreams parallel to those of citizens without disabilities.
I'm writing today to ask for your help, and to let you know that your support, now, is more important than ever. Given the state's budget situation, where significant cuts are needed over the next few years, all of our issues -- health care, Medicaid, transportation, housing, and employment -- could be on the chopping block. Either we're at the table when these changes are discussed, or all of us miss out.

Whatever you send will help, because we plan to get the biggest bang for every dollar. For example, we'll explore whether donated funds can be used to draw new federal dollars into the state.
