Happy Holidays!
The staff and board members of MDRC hope this December finds you enjoying holiday celebrations with your family and friends. This holiday season, MDRC staff are continuing our tradition of giving by donating needed items to families who are homeless. MDRC's annual letter and list of accomplishments is on our webpage. Smoking Cessation and People with Disabilities
In November, MDRC was involved in a panel discussion about health inequities and the failure of smoking cessation programs to reach and support disparately affected populations. MDRC staff talked about the importance of accommodating and supporting people with disabilities. The panel also included a person from the Native American community, the Arab/Chaldean community and an ally of the LGBT community.

Spirit & Pride: Re-imagining Disability
MDRC participated in “Spirit & Pride: Re-imagining Disability in Jewish and Christian Communities”. More than twenty-five people from West and Mid-Michigan participated in the four week program. The program focused on challenging the theological traditions of pity and charity and drawing upon ancient and emerging traditions of liberation to help participants become more effective catalysts for change where they live, work, and worship.

Assistive Technology and Transition to Community Living
On December 10th, MDRC provided information on Assistive Technology for people who have cognitive impairments to Michigan Center for Independent Living (Disability Network) staff who help people transition out of nursing homes. Topics included using technology to support memory, attention, mood, and personal safety.

MDRC Board Retreat
The MDRC board held their annual retreat in November. Among many fine conversations, the members were particularly energized by MDRC’s expanded focus on fund raising initiatives.
