Health Care
MDRC is participating in a statewide petition effort to require the Michigan legislature to assure that every Michigan citizen has health insurance. The initiative is gathering signatures for a constitutional amendment to make the legislature create a system. The amendment does not say how that should be done, only that it happen. More information about the petition .
Assistive Technology & Long Term Care
Michigan's Assistive Technology Program has provided training and a demonstration kit of devices to staff members of the Disability Resource Network in Kalamazoo and Community Connections in Benton Harbor. The training and devices include items to help with daily living and mobility to assist people to live in homes of their choice. Training and demonstrations of the devices is now available through these organizations. Additional training and kits will be available in the Upper Peninsula and Detroit area in the upcoming months. Assistive Technology Exchange
ATXchange now has 95 items including computers, hospital beds, vans and more. Check out www.atxchange.org and post an item for sale or free or look for items you need.
Housing
The Housing Program at MDRC supported 11 advocates attending that National Low Income Housing Conference in Washington D.C. in February. While there, they met with staff from both Michigan Senators' offices and 2 representatives to advocate for support of the National Housing Trust Fund and increased funding for housing options for low-income people with disabilities.
