Winter Outdoor Adapted Sports Information

As the snow piles up, getting out of the house becomes more difficult. Cabin fever from being indoors 24/7 is a real issue for everyone. If you live in Michigan, especially the Northern areas, it's good to learn to enjoy our Winter weather. People with disabilities play and compete in a wide range of winter sports such as skiing, sledge hockey, ice skating, snowmobiling, even ski biking (new to me!)... using adapted equipment. To learn more, please visit the following links:

Michigan Adapted Sports

Activities include skiing with trained volunteers who give two-hour lessons most Saturdays in January and February at Pine Knob Ski Resort in Clarkston. Participants can register for one or multiple lessons. The fees are nominal and include a lift ticket, lesson and equipment rental costs. Also, for the past two years they have traveled up north to Crystal Mountain in Thompsonville to offer an exciting day of lessons on more varied terrain. Michigan Adaptive Sports P.O. Box 569 Keego Harbor, MI 48320 Please Call: 248-988-0156.

Northern Michigan Adapted Sports and Recreation Program

The program offers sports and recreational opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Winter activities include dog sledding, ice skating for kids, sled hockey and snow skiing. Please call (231) 935-7351.
