who exercise their fair housing rights.

Michigan
Housing Laws
- Inclusive
Home Design Act: On June 6, 2006, the hard work of Michigan
advocates paid off as Michigan enacted the Inclusive
Home Design Act, Act No. 182. The act was introduced
by Reps. Wenke and Miller. Representative Wenke received the "Corrie
Bair Building Inclusive Communities Award" from the Michigan
Disability Rights Coalition in recognition of his advocacy for
passage of this act.

Fair
Housing of Southeastern Michigan offers Housing Advocate Training
Manual in April 2006.
The manual is designed as an aid to training social service organization staff
on Fair Housing and Landlord/Tenant Law as well as housing subsidy Programs. A

- Persons
with Disabilities Civil Rights Act: Act 220 of 1976
An Act to define the civil rights of persons with disabilities; to
prohibit discriminatory practices, policies, and customs in the exercise
of those rights; to prescribe penalties and to provide remedies; and
to provide for the promulgation of rules. From Section 102:
(1)The opportunity to obtain
employment, housing, and other real estate and full and equal utilization
of public accommodations, public services, and educational facilities
without discrimination because of a disability is guaranteed by this
act and is a civil right.
(2) Except as otherwise provided
in article 2, a person shall accommodate a person with a disability
for purposes of employment, public accommodation, public service,
education, or housing unless the person demonstrates that the accommodation
would impose an undue hardship.
