CONNECT
Retreat 2007
Coming Together to Make an Impact
On
the weekend of September 14, students from Grand Valley State University
and Saginaw Valley State University, along with CCL staff, gathered
at the Leaven Center in Lyons, Michigan for the second Annual CONNECT
Retreat.
Students and staff took time to learn more about their own disability
history, pride, and culture. Participants reflected on what it
meant to be part of this rich history in the disability movement. In
addition, participants spent time exploring their personal involvement
in the movement. Each participant put together a personal book that helped
them investigate themselves (strengths, weaknesses, values, etc.) and
learn more about their leadership style(s).

Participants also discussed how, as a group, they could make an impact
on the disability rights movement in Michigan. On Sunday, students held
a brainstorming session on how to get more students involved with the
CONNECT network and the greater disability rights movement.
