What is the Informed Communities program area of Connections for Community Leadership?
Informed Communities is a grant funded by the Michigan Developmental Disabilities Council to help people with disabilities and their families understand national, state and local disability issues; participate in public policy discussions; and take action on issues that affect their lives, by giving 2-4 free informational meetings on public policy issues per year for people with disabilities and their allies.

What does Informed Communities do?
The Informed Communities program area will:
- Seek consumer input to determine which public policy issues people with disabilities consider most important.
- Plan and provide 2-4 free informational meetings annually, in different parts of the state, for people with disabilities and their allies to obtain up-to-date information on public policy issues from experts.
- During these informational meetings, CCL will help participants discuss and develop action plans on the subject(s) of the meeting.
- Follow-up to help the communities mobilize advocacy.
