What is CONNECT?

CONNECT is a statewide network for college students that are involved with or are interested in starting a disability organization on their campus.  CONNECT assists colleges and universities across the state of Michigan to be more effective in providing support and opportunities for students with disabilities.  CONNECT is funded by the Michigan Developmental Disabilities Council and housed at Michigan Disability Rights Coalition. 

What does CONNECT do?

CONNECT can assist with:

* Communicating with other student groups throughout Michigan.
* Helping students and faculty start student groups on college campuses in Michigan.
* Providing support to students with disabilities so they can be more effective in their community.
* Strengthening activities and accomplishments of disability student organizations.
* Creating a transition plan for disability student organizations.
* Distributing information on the latest national and local scholarship, employment, and leadership opportunities to students with disabilities. 

What Has CONNECT Accomplished?

Made Connections
Created connections with over 100 college/university campuses in Michigan and continued to increase the CONNECT network.

Networking Opportunities
Organizes and sponsors retreats for student disability groups across the state to help them learn how to network, sustain their organizations, and develop a transition plan for when members graduate.  
 
Resources
A monthly E-zine, is distributed throughout the state, to keep students with disabilities informed about leadership, scholarship, and employment opportunities.  Three student handbooks are available early 2007: How to Start a Organization, Leadership Transition, and Assessable Events.  

Influenced Corporations
CONNECT has worked with nationally recognized corporations, like Monster.com, to assist them in welcoming and including people with disabilities in their Diversity Leadership Program.
