Myths and Realities of Long-Term Care
The Time Is NOW for Michigan to Reform Long-Term Care!
We propose a 5-Point Plan to:
- Make the system easier for people to use.
- Be more efficient and cost effective.
- Recognize the civil right of people to live where they choose
- Money Follows the Person. People who are
financially eligible for publicly funded long-term care or support should
receive services where they choose.
- Single Point of Entry. Create a one-stop
source for information, screening, referral, and ongoing support.
- A Fair Process. Be consistent and use the
same instrument all across the state to assure that all of a person's long-term
care needs are met, not just one doctor's opinion.
- Money According to Need. Payment should be
based on what people need, not what the system needs.
- A Living Wage for Care/Support Providers.
Personal Assistants who are secure in their employment assure quality care and
quality lives.
