Myths and Realities of Long-Term Care

The Time Is NOW for Michigan to Reform Long-Term Care!

We propose a 5-Point Plan to:

  • Make the system easier for people to use.
  • Be more efficient and cost effective.
  • Recognize the civil right of people to live where they choose
  1. Money Follows the Person. People who are financially eligible for publicly funded long-term care or support should receive services where they choose.
  2. Single Point of Entry. Create a one-stop source for information, screening, referral, and ongoing support.
  3. A Fair Process. Be consistent and use the same instrument all across the state to assure that all of a person's long-term care needs are met, not just one doctor's opinion.
  4. Money According to Need. Payment should be based on what people need, not what the system needs.
  5. A Living Wage for Care/Support Providers. Personal Assistants who are secure in their employment assure quality care and quality lives.
